A Litany of Humility

Lord Jesus, gentle and humble of heart,
Hear my prayer and help me.

Deliver me from the need of being esteemed.
Free me from the need of being affirmed.
Release me from the need of being celebrated.
Empty me from the need of being honored.
Heal me from the need of being praised.
Settle me from the need of being preferred to others.
Unburden me from the need of being consulted.
Redeem me from the need of being approved.

Unseat from me the fear of being abased.
Expel from me the fear of being despised.
Drive from me the fear of suffering rebukes.
Remove from me the fear of being slandered.
Eliminate from me the fear of being forgotten.
Rid from me the fear of being ridiculed.
Purge from me the fear of being wronged.
Take from me the fear of being accused.

Help me desire that You would be loved more than I.
Help me desire that You would be esteemed more than I.
Help me desire that You would increase and I would decrease.
Help me desire that You would be chosen and I set aside.
Help me desire that You would be praised and I go unnoticed.
Help me desire that You would be first in everything.
